Input & Suggestions for Xbox Clan

Welcome fellow gamer. You have probably been directed here by a friend over Xbox Live. The purpose of this article is to gather the majority opinion of community friends for creating a new Xbox clan.

My name is Mike, known as crustymusic99, and will be gathering suggestions by you for discussion and decision. The others involved in this creation are SNissley, The Chef 81, as well as several of you we have talked to. We don't intend to be the "leaders" or the people incharge, everyone's opinion is appreciated, but someone has to make the decision, right?

Available options:
1. Not have a website at all, and just play together as friends as we do now, possibly all using the same clan tag.
2. Provide a small website for discussion among clan members
3. Go full blown, advertise ourselves to the xbox live community, and aim for world domination.

Personally, I would like us to create a clan of friends where we can make our presence known. I don't think we need to go for the biggest and most popular, but at the same time try to recruit those "cool" people we meet as we play.

This is the current site you are reading. I am an admin on the site which was created as a gaming community, designed to also host clans.

Pros: Flexible, paid forum and hosting, free to use. Vbulletin is a paid license and has many more features than a free forum. Here I basically have full realm to customize our site and add modifications as needed. In addition, this site is used for other things gaming and non that gives us an outlet to promote ourselves.

Alternatives
Get a free blog, forum, site, or pay for one. Free sites have extreme limitations, and paying for one would be costly.

Aspects of the Clan
We want to know what everyone actually wants this clan to be like.

Ranking system- We think a ranking system is a good idea, based on both activity in the clan and in-game skill level, so even the worst players have the chance to move up. However, we don't want to lose the sense of a group of friends, and don't want ranks to cause unhappy people.

Teams- possible solution to maintaining the identity of playing with friends, while also being in a clan. Within the clan we can have teams, who compete among each other for friendly gaming. Anyone could create a team, and control who can join, meanwhile we are all part of the same clan.

Leadership- Do we want to vote on leaders, who make decisions and choose who gets what rank? Do we want everything to be voted on? (tedious in my opinion) Do we want leaders to rotate? etc etc My opinion, I wouldn't call it leaders but have a small group of the peoplle most involved in the clan to run things while having a system that allows everyone's input and voting on only important topics.

Clan Name- I know this would be a hot topic. As stated, using the phnx site which is our best option, requires we take that name. Otherwise, we need suggestions and a different site.

Rules- What sort of rules shoudl the clan have? Many people are discouraged from joining clans on xbox because of rules. Therefore, I suggest only the most basic. Ie. no cheating and respect.

Games- This clan was prompted by play within Modern Warfare 2, but should we limit our clan to only 1 game? I would say we should make this a clan for all games, and on the site we can have categories for each game. Many of us also play world at war, and I would also like to play as a clan on games like rainbow 6 vegas.

Who- Who is allowed in the clan? Open to the public? Any requirements to join? Only friends? Must be approved (if so based on what? skill level/personality?) Should we make it invite only? On one hand being open to the public gives us room to expand and promote. On the other, being invitation only sets us up as an elite clan which must be earned; prevents assholes from joining. I see why both are good options.

Other notes- we could have gaming nights, where everyone tries to get on at once and promote the clan, maybe have competitions with prizes if people can donate, if we were big enough ads on the site or even sponsorship would provide income for rewards. We can also issue clan challenges and try to create rivalries.

Thats all we can think of, so send us your thoughts and tell us your ideas. You may have something in mind we didn't, make sure to be detailed and opinionated. This will make sure the clan is best suited to the majority.

Ok update. Erderr has assured me backups will be done regularly and I have acess to the server again, so we will use these boards.

I don't really don't care what we do. The only thing I have input on is the our ranking system. I dont think we should place a huge amount of emphasis on it or even have one as the main point is to have fun....we dont need anybody getting worked up because theyre not doing well or whatever. oh and i dont think it should be open to the public..it should be an area for us buddies to cooperate and not just have anybody coming in..also in that sense that if it gets too big (the clan) it might not be as fun and centered around just us friends
